A DVD Rack can be used for a variety of home organization related issues. The primary use of one is to store DVD movies in. You can also keep a variety of other digital media related items in a DVD rack. This diversity makes a DVD rack more of a general media storage solution and not just a movie storage solution.
The tower rack is the kind of DVD rack that you will find in most homes, apartments and dorms these days. They are extremely forgiving on the amount of actually floor space that they consume. Their footprint is really only about 10 inches wide by 6 inches deep. They store movies one on top of the other, sometimes separated by tabs or in other cases just on top of each other. If you have less than 200 movies to store, these can be the most space friendly option for your media storage needs.
Another type of DVD rack that you will often find is the wall mounted DVD rack. As it’s name implies, this is a DVD rack that you mount onto a wall. Typically they are mounted with screws and/or hooks. However there are also adhesive backed DVD racks that are fine for storing just a few DVD’s but not many. These are typically in horizontal orientation and will offer you a floor space free storage solution.
You can also find hanging DVD racks that make a great solution for unique situations. These are used when holes can’t be drilled into walls for wall mounted racks, and floor space is too limited for more conventional tower DVD racks. They are designed to hook over the sides of your entertainment stand or on the back of a door. These are great for college dorms, efficiency apartments and other confined areas.
When using a DVD rack in your home, you will want to make sure that you orient it in a manner that will permit you and your guests easy access to the media. That way it will be easier for not only you to get your movies when you want them, but it will be easier for your friends and family to see what movies you have and select one for themselves to watch without you having to look over their shoulder or guild them. They are great for kids as well. You can use them to teach your children excellent organization and cleaning skills from an early age that will be a benefit to them for the rest of their lives.
