Due to the current economic slowdown, there are few industries that have been left unaffected. One of the hardest hit has been the makers of cell phones and handsets. These companies are not only suffering from a sharp decrease in demand, but they have also been hit with rising material costs. Since Sim free mobile phones have many components that are made out of petroleum and oil prices have been on the rise, it is not surprising that product costs have gone up over the past year.
In recent months, the market leader in cell phone sales, Nokia, reported a sixty-six percent drop off in profits. It also revealed that sales were off by more than twenty-five percent during the same time the last year. Their competitors in the mobile phone market, like Erricson, Sanyo and Samsung have also experienced sharp declines.
One of the brightest spots on the horizon for Nokia was the company’s sales figures for smart phones. Per the company’s statements, Nokia found that it could expand its market share and promote expanded sales of smart phones to a greater degree. It is true that the company expects the sales of the smart phones to remain strong and possibly increase. However, the company does not automatically believe that it will experience a stunning increase in the sales of the traditional Sim free mobile phones. According what many expect, as long as the massive global recession continues to exist, consumers will keep their original Sim free mobile phones and not look to replace the phones with newer and flashier models.
Can customers expect special deals or price declines?
Thanks in large part to a dramatic decline in sales, the manufacturers of cell phones have become somewhat desperate. The prime directive during a tough economic environment is never market expansion, but rather it is a strategy of simple survival. Even the leader of the market, Nokia, has abandoned original plans to aggressively promote market expansion this year. Instead, it has settled on opting to retain its position as the leader of a depressed issue. Granted, there are prices in which a Sim free mobile phone could not feasibly be sold, the prices will generally continue to decline as the economic slowdown continues to tighten its grip on the global markets and the prices of products increase.
As a means to increase sales, even the giant Nokia has been pressed to cut the price of common products such as handsets. Some may not believe this, but the average price of a Nokia handset gas been reduced from $104 the previous year to a new low price of $88. Yet, despite the low price, Nokia was only able to sell 15% fewer devices than it sold the prior year. However, a problematic economic environment leaves companies with absolutely no choice but to reduce their prices even further in a desperate attempt to ensure their sales figures remain somewhat stable.
Producers of Sim mobile phones are also realize the trend in mobile phones is departing from traditional cell phones and heading in the direction of devices along the lines of smartphone and Iphone models that provide proper custom content. However, it is no secret that the business will still rely on the sale of traditional mobile phones in order to keep the phone sales somewhat consistent.
From this point forward, if can be difficult to predict the type of prices of deals customers can expect. It is a matter of economic reality that if the recession were to continue, mobile phone manufacturers will be further forced to cut prices amidst declining demands.
