Why You Need a Motorcycle Jack

by Jack Jacobs on December 3, 2009

Assuming that you aren’t any different than most motorcycle enthusiasts, it is safe to say that you probably enjoy working on your motorcycle almost as much as riding on it. There is just something about a motorcycle that inspires men to want to modify and make it better. If this describes you, then never fear, you have a lot of company.

If you do attempt to work on your own motorcycle, then you will quickly learn that there is at least one tool that you simply must have in order to work on your motorcycle safely. That tool is a good quality motorcycle jack. You need this because the jack you use on your truck or car, isn’t going to work on your motorcycle jack and it is important that you do not attempt to use a regular jack.

A good quality motorcycle jack will always have a safety lock on it that, once set, will not allow the jack to release and drop the motorcycle. It will also be equipped with a strap or a tie down of some sort that will go up and over the bike and lock it to the jack. This tie down will basically anchor the motorcycle to the jack allowing you to wrench on it and in many cases even stand on either end without the motorcycle tipping.

These two safety features are something you should make sure any motorcycle jack you buy be equipped with as they are absolutely necessary for your safety. I would not even consider working on a motorcycle without these two features. Rest assured though as they are commonplace in any jack designated as being for a motorcycle.

You know Christmas is coming very soon and I don’t know of a better time to buy a good quality motorcycle jack. You know the weather is cold so your motorcycle is likely sitting in the garage feeling lonely anyways. Even the most mundane of maintenance issues will require a motorcycle jack and the as expensive as the dealers are for maintenance, you will recover the money on your purchase if you only change your own oil one time.

The only thing left to figure out is where to buy your motorcycle jack. You may not have many options in your home town but don’t worry, you can find a great deal on a motorcycle jack online. I purchased my jack on Ebay and saved a bit over 50 dollars on it. If you do your research, find a couple of different brands that you would be good with, then go buy on Ebay and you will save yourself a lot of money.

Your safety is worth it.
