In any society, criminals are always involved. Whenever some other person has a good amount of money and has an excellent lifestyle along with their excellent paycheck, some other person who puts no applied effort into life finds this and robs them of it. The epitome of the old school criminals is the good old “hold you at gunpoint” breed. These criminals might lurk in some gloomy alley for all of your cash and jewels, and then leave you poor and hurt. This is the most memorable view of the old-style crook.

This breed of criminals would star in the good old mafia films, the ones so outdated they would be in scratchy gray-scale. Aside from their Hollywood glitz surface though, these guys did some bad stuff. Not just the mafia gangs, but street criminals are responsible for most of the destruction and fright many citizens experience now. These people were the ones who left bystanders feeling nervous for their lives, and were bait for sensationalist news reports adding to the hysteria.

These mafia guys committed crimes that rocked the nation. They were the societal rejects, the ones who, when families saw their grim faces rotting in jail, would turn their kid’s looks away, as if their menacing stare had some hypnotic quality. These guys are the cumulative force that the United States walks so carefully with its prison system. It is an interesting matter that such an open system cultivates: you have these seemingly unlimited free choices, yet it is just unconsciously understood and hoped for that you won’t infringe upon them. Unfortunately, while many of us pay mind to these laws, guys like these do not and it rips apart at the moral fiber of our nation.

The criminals of the olden days, the kind that would stop you in a desolate corridor with their various weapons and then pilfer all of your goods, although were at one time the worst of the worst, are child’s play to our bad guys of recent. The criminals of today have one huge advantage: they have assimilated technology into their misdeeds. One might at first consider that technology is with the boys in blue, making it simpler and more efficient to get these criminals, but in fact it helps the crooks to hide themselves. The criminals have become one with the high-tech equipment and become very skilled in its use.

Think of the average crime scene. An sly criminal who wanted some money would see a rich-looking person, and judge their odds of winning. There was no technology they could use to conceal themselves or make the scene of their crime less obvious. Once they were caught, there was no DNA evidence to connect them, there was just a simple line up and the victim cautiously picked out the offending face.

Technology is our hero then, right? Unfortunately, this is often not the case. While our rapid success in producing DNA tracking, fingerprints and other technological advances, these tools can also help in the suspect’s runaway from justice. A running car is the most high-tech equipment a criminal today needs to disappear; it doesn’t matter is they know exactly who did the act. If they can’t go out and get them, all of their information on them is quite useless.

A non-physical crime; the perfect crime. This is a double whammy for law enforcement, there is no scene of the crime and the criminal can hide behind virtual walls they have constructed. Another scary thing is that, in truth these hackers and identity thieves are, as mentioned before, rarely caught. So with no way to try and stop them, we can only hope to defend ourselves. It’s much more flexible and user-friendly! I can sort and run reports so much easier. That’s how you know the software is solid. This software is great! I actually know how much interest I make a month. It simplifies your finances while giving you more information.

For me, it is well worth the cost. I bought this based on the reviews of the product and the whole concept of sticking to a budget.

I got YNAB Pro, paid my one-time fee and I was up and running. I love the “buffer” concept, something D.R did not have.

YNAB is an excellent program IF you are completely dedicated to maintaining the input on a daily basis. If you let it slide, it becomes almost impossible to catch up.

I followed the setup guide and searched through the user forums to help me figure out one or two things that I didn’t understand at first. Go to the FAQ section of their user forums to find the “cheat sheet” to get started on the right foot.

That included me! I complained about the implications of installing a ‘virus’ in my software, disabling normal account downloads, since license limitations were not disclosed previously. I guess this means that after I do the updates I have to go to each of my bank sites and double check. I switch to Quicken Home and Business to replace Microsoft Money Small Business as it will no longer be supported. After several unproductive exchanges with the support group, I decided to re-enter my company data by hand. The support people would not answer questions directly, they would just direct me to load intermediate software and do a series of ‘conversions” to the files. Wow, that makes sense. Clearly Intuit’s programmers weren’t thinking and this is an obvious mistake with the architecture of the system; having two separate classes of payee makes no sense whatsoever!

Personally, I am getting weary of using this product. The upgrade ad said that it would keep track of all expenses, give a bottom line, a forecast for the month(s) ahead. I upgraded to Quicken H&B 2011 from the 2005 version. To be honest, I just don’t see how this is really any better. The two programs have a totally different look and flow to how information is entered and displayed. At first, of course everything looks confusing. I had some trouble with the update it wanted to do. No matter how many times you send them they will send you an email stating that they are waiting for you to send them those files. Program worked for five months until Sept 15, 2011 until they upgraded their servers. I purchased Quicken 2011 H&B because I received an email from quicken saying they would no longer support my old version (Q 2008), and I wasn’t all that satisfied with it either. So I upgraded. I was concerned about what would happen if I had PC trouble, and didn’t need to wait long to find out, as I got a really aggressive virus within two weeks of my purchase. I was able to download the product again without any trouble at all!

I consistently get CC-501 errors. Right now they are offering Quicken Home and Business at a 35% discount and if you are thinking about purchasing it you might want to read all the reviews.

The history of the Quicken product doesn’t suggest a bright future for Quicken users. Don’t get suckered into starting up with Quicken.

I found this product very lacking. The free Microsoft Money Home and Office was more user friendly and more option as far as business. This got a little wonky on me and actually broke my ability to download transactions manually, in addition to not adding the accounts correctly to begin with. I started getting the infamous OL 221 - an error message.
