Serious Tips For Stand-Up Comedians

by Erin Garcia on August 28, 2010

As a stand-up comedian, you will not always perform things right. Needless to say, nobody’s perfect either. At the same time, here are some tips that you can use which will keep you out of harm’s way and keep you working in the stand-up comedy business.

You shouldn’t laugh at your own jokes.

While performance, in case there are people from the audience that trying to distract you be relaxed and keep trying to perform. Eventually should they keep doing it, they will be asked to go out by the management.

When you are performing at an open mic event, it should be with shows, which are similar to yours. It could be awkward to perform on a night where other people are doing poetry and other readings not associated with comedy.

Believe it or not, there are people in the audience that will take note of your antics hoping of using them. Keep an eye out for people like that while you are performing.

Don’t overdo a joke. Execute it within the suitable time frame. It can get old and stale if you ever keep going on with it and the crowd get irritated.

Don’t bash other stand-up comedians. Keep your viewpoints for yourself. If you have anything to share, allow them to ask you. If they don’t, then don’t press the problem. This will not allow you to get any kind of love from your associates.

Being offensive is a no-no. You happen to be there to make them have fun. They don’t want to hear about stuff that are disgusting and get them disappointed.

Communicate yourself in a way that people would enjoy it. You need to be yourself when you do it.

Never talk so loud which you could break the eardrums of the people in the audience. Keep your volume to a sufficient level. Tone your voice down and change the microphone if you have to.

During your performance, maintain a good mindset, regardless of what. Even if the audience doesn’t laugh at your jokes, keep a smile on your face.

Don’t become a substance abuser. This cannot really help you while you are performing on stage. It does not help you if you are trying to develop new material. The truth is, you can’t be able to think straight if you are on this zone. Always be sober if you are performing in front of an audience.

It weighs more on an audience on how they receive your performance rather than focusing on you. You are there to have them laugh. If you’re not delivering, they will not laugh at your jokes. You’re there to entertain them, not to amuse yourself.

Be pleasant at all times and never upset others, especially your fellow stand-up comedians. You will never know when you will need a favor from them one day. When you have more enemies than friends, you could be messed up. Nobody would like to do anything for you.

Never be conceited because you have a few performances under your belt. You can find people out there who are professionals that know how to carry themselves appropriately. They know that if they don’t then they could be out of a job. Acting stuck up will push anyone to put you back in your place from where you started.

Don’t make fun of other people. Don’t hurt their feelings intentionally. You are there to perform, not to make fun of anyone. People in the audience will take offense to that and walk out. Your fan base may start to decrease.

When you perform, never force yourself to create a joke when you don’t have any idea whether it’s going to be funny or not. Stay with your typical stream and perform the way you normally do. If you have to, produce newer and more effective material days before you are on to perform again.

You need to project a perception that’s positively portraying you as a stand-up comedian. You want your audience to be aware that you’re warm and friendly and are looking to make them have fun when you are performing.

Don’t do anything that may turn your audience off from you.

It’s all right to become clean cut so that your audience can ascertain you’re funny, yet sincere about your craft.

Don’t go overboard when you’re performing and telling jokes. Although free speech is out there, occasionally we need to be mindful as not to upset others.

Create your own jokes so people could get the jest of what you really are discussing. You don’t like them exiting the venue shaking their heads in wonder.

In case you perform one-liners, be sure that they are good ones. Not every stand-up comedian has the capacity to try this, but if you are, more power to you. They can be your ram in the bush when you wish additional material to perform. Be cautious regarding the subject matter where you use the one-liners.

Doing tale jokes demand stand-up comedians to become genuine about the subject matter or at least do it like it could be the real deal. It’s not necessary to make up or lie regarding what you are talking about.

When you are performing jokes that include question and answer combos, they must relate to the current climate in your life. Anything else would be a total waste of time.

Be yourself and be natural. Anything else the audience would pick up on it right away.

A sexy but still cheeky stand up comedy is troublesome to get! Almost everyone would like somebody that could make them bust a gut and look really good at the same time. Just the most desirable stand up comedian will do the action!

Ways To Establish Style Of Comedy

by Bethy Shaw on August 25, 2010

Even though their road to stardom could be challenging at first, when they start getting a captive and receptive audience, they’re on their way with their reward. At the start, they have to utilize their thought process and look at what could make the audience laugh.

Comedians consistently need to tweak and get tune their material till they get to a point where everyone is attentive to them. Still, there will be instances where they should think about what they say.

Look into what style of comedy can suit you. How do you speak? Do you think you’re full of life and animation? Or do you think you’re firm and just stand there trying to tell jokes? Do you know of any funny experiences from your childhood that can make good fodder to the audience? When you know exactly what you want to accomplish, it will be possible to make a brand.

See comedians who perform in the same manner that you do. The simplest way to advance would be to visit various comedy clubs and check at what professional comedians do. Look and pay attention at how they connect, tell stories and render punch lines.

Some comedians may talk very quickly, while some may talk slow. Some will speak soft, while some will talk loud. It depends upon their personality as to how they deliver.

Get involved on a personal level. Try to find some factors in your life you want and dislike. Think about things or incidents that make you happy or disappointed. Comedians need to be able to connect with their audience at a personal level. Free your mind and note precisely what comes to you.

You will find several types of funny acts which you could practice with:

Observations - this means you’re identifying funny occurrences or other things that take place everyday.

Mimicking - this is when you try to sound like someone else.

Comparison Jokes - comparing yourself to someone else, recognizing disparities.

List Jokes - the initial two parts are similar and the third area is contrary of the first two.

Do not forget the punch line if you are seeking to woo your audience with laughter. A punch line is the last portion of a joke or comedy sketch where there’s a term or perhaps a few words which the comedian use to make the audience laugh. If you take too long to do the punch line, the audience may become apathetic.

With stand-up comedy, you should rehearse your comedy routine. You may first want to practice it in front of people that you don’t know. You are searching for an honest opinion, whether it’s good or bad.

Doing it facing people that you know may be tricky. More often than not, they don’t want to hurt your feelings, therefore will possibly not receive a genuine opinion from them. You want to know if your element is any good. If it’s not, you will need to modify it to where you’re going to get people to respond favorably. Do the job the comedy clubs and anywhere else you can try out your material.

Comedy clubs make the perfect place to begin your job. Continue to obtain a feel of what you can do so that you can capture the joy of your audience. Be sure that your comedy routines are unique and they have not been heightened from some other comedians.

Doing stand-up comedy is not easy. Back in the days if you could make your friends to laugh at your jokes, it was ok. Back then, people would easily think about you as a comedian. However, when you’re performing before a live audience, it’s a different story.

A captivating but still hilarious stand up comedy is very hard to get! Everyone would like somebody that tend to make them giggle and look great at the same time. Simply the ideal stand up comedian will do the action!
